Congratulations Keira!
Hines Creek Composite is very proud of Grade 11 student, Keira McEwen, who was accepted into the WISEST summer research program at the University of Alberta.
Here is what Keira had to say about the opportunity:
The WISEST summer research program is a six-week paid internship in which female and gender-diverse Grade 11 students are working as researches in STEM fields of their interests. Each year there are around 200 applicants to this program making it very competitive. This year 42 students were given science-related placements and I was one of them! I was placed in a chemistry lab where I will be working with plants using a Click and Grow system. From there, my main focus will be using gas chromatography to analyze the compounds produced by the plants. I am very excited and honoured to be selected for this incredible program and I hope to represent small town northern Alberta and the PRSD very well!
Congratulations Keira! We can't wait to hear about your summer.
